About

ien7.jpg

Ien graduated as a Dietitian in the Netherlands before emigrating to New Zealand.  Growing up in a sporty household (her dad was an Olympic Swim Coach) and being heavily involved in competitive swimming and water polo from a young age, Ien soon decided to combine her passions for sport, food and nutrition to become one of the first and most experienced sports dietitians in New Zealand.

Ien established a successful sport and health nutrition consultancy at SportsMed, Christchurch’s foremost Sports Medicine Centre. She completed a Masters degree in Human Nutrition at Otago University in 1999 and accepted a lecturing position at the University in 2001, where she worked for seven years before returning to Christchurch.

Ien has worked with many of New Zealand’s elite sports teams, including the Silver Ferns, Canterbury Crusaders, and the New Zealand Cycling, Swim and Triathlon teams. She was the first appointed New Zealand Olympic Team dietitian, traveling with the Team to the Athens Olympic Games. She worked with the NZ Triathlon Team in preparation for the London and Rio Olympics and advised trap shooter Natalie Rooney in the build up to her silver medal performance at the Rio Olympics.

Ien consults to both the general public and athletes at her clinic at SportsMed and online.
